New Patients

What will happen at my first appointment

Every new patient (and old patient with new injury) will be examined, diagnosed and provided a treatment plan according to the steps listed below. The first session takes 60-90 minutes, depending on the symptoms and the complication.

Patient interview on the symptoms, general health condition and previous treatments

The first step of the assessment involves interviewing the patient on the injury, general health condition, previous treatments and pre-treatment medication routine, in order to gather information and investigate the causes that may be related to the injury. It also affects the treatment plan in case the patient has any underlying disease.

Another important aspect of the preliminary interview is inquiring about the patient’s objectives and expectations, which helps in planning the treatment.

Physical examination for assessment

The physical examination is based on the interview. There are various procedures and methods depending on the problems, such as the ability to move, movement interval, muscle length and strength, balance, stability, muscle association, and other specialized examinations. These all will help with examination summary and treatment explanation.

Diagnostic and explanation

After the interview and the examination, the therapist will inform the patient of the results and explain about the problem. A skeletal and joint model and images will be incorporated to help the patient understand. Explanation is an important step for the clinic because it helps patients understand the root causes and self-care instructions, in order to reduce the chance of recurrence. Patients are encouraged to ask additional questions about the pain.

Treatment

Once the patient understands the problem and the treatment guideline, the therapist will provide fundamental self-care instructions and relevant at-home exercises during recovery. This is important and the patient should strictly adhere to the instructions to ensure recovery.

Follow-up sessions

In many cases, patients are required to attend follow-up sessions. Therapists will help plan the treatments and recommend appropriate timing for the next session (time and frequency depend on the injury and disease) for best results and to ensure patients’ objectives or expectations are met. If any patients would like to cancel or reschedule your appointment, Please kindly inform us within 24 hour prior to the appointment.
